Discipleship Groups (or D-Groups)

What is a Discipleship Group?
It's our ministry's term for "Bible Study" or "Small Group." In The Navigators, we don't merely want to grow as Bible studiers, but as disciples of Jesus. So we use a term that matches our desire.

These groups meet weekly on campus to pursue the goals listed below. We'd love for you to join a group!

What are the goals of a Discipleship Group?
Overall: Grow as a Disciple of Jesus
Our goal in Discipleship Groups is for each person to grow as a disciple of Jesus. A disciple is a follower and learner, who seeks to pattern their life after the teaching, modeling, and direction of their master.

We see this happening in groups together in three primary ways:

1. In the Word & Prayer
Growth as a disciple happens by seeking Jesus through the Word and in Prayer. 

Jesus said: “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples,” (John 15:7-8).

2. In Community
Growth as a disciple happens among other people who will stir me towards God.

“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near,” (Hebrews 10:24-25).

3. On Mission
Growth as a disciple happens as we obey Jesus’ command to make disciples.

Jesus said: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age,” (Matthew 28:18b-20).
